Excavation at Naga: the Fall Campaign 2014

The Spring Campaign of 2015 started in the middle of January. The restoration of the mudbrick walls of the Temple of Amun, sponsored by the Foreign Office as part of the program for the preservation of cultural heritage, continued, most recently on the surviving courses of the mudbrick pylon (firm: Restaurierung am Oberbaum).

The results of the conservators’ labour are impressive, not only in helping preserve the temple, but also giving it back its “face”. It is easier now to visualize its original appearance, without having to resort to a complete and otherwise immoderate modern reconstruction.

The preliminary work for the excavation of Temple 1200 is now done. The terrain was recorded digitally, the measurement grid expanded to suit the excavation needs and new fixed points created around the temple area.

The excavation is being documented using both conventional methods and modern technology. The latter required, among other things, the purchase of a photo drone which is currently being tested on-site.
